On the 3rd of August, Regent Brass were due to play at College Gardens, Wesminster Abbey as part of the Brass on the Grass series. Adverse (rainy) weather conditions on the day forced the band indoors and the band played in the beautiful St. Margaret’s Chapel instead.

We played a varied programme, everything from Phillip Sparke’s arrangement of Josef Zainwul’s Birdland to the classic Mack & Mabel overture to HK Gruber’s Demilitarized Zones. We featured 4 solo features: Marianne arranged by Adrian Drover (Flugelhorn soloist – Freddie Meyers), Peace by John Golland (Euphonium soloist: Steve Rongevær-Boother), Fabulous Gecko by Peter Yarde-Martin (Eb bass soloist: Ed Frazer-Brown) and The Debutante by Herbert L. Clarke (Tenor horn soloist: Neil Rossiter).

We performed Liz Lane’s recent composition Beyond the light and were honoured that the composer could join us and introduce her moving piece, a tribute to the late Bramwell Tovey, which we played in such beautiful surroundings.
