Regent Brass are now well advanced in our preparation for the London & Southern Counties Regional Finals, which take place in the Gorden Craig theatre, Stevenage on 19th March. The contest has not run for the last two years due to the COVID pandemic, and the band is looking forward to returning to the event, which offers qualification to the National Finals in Cheltenham – in September – for the top performing bands.
The set work is Gilbert Vinter’s popular and highly demanding work, ‘Spectrum’ which despite it’s age – it was written in the late 60s – features a remarkably modern approach. It is also recognised as a very tough challenge for bands in Section 1, with very exposed writing in all sections of the band and a variety of musical styles.
As part of our preparations for this challenge, the band welcomes three more new signings – joining our front row cornets is Steven Hair, on solo trombone we are delighted to welcome Paul Findlay and further enhancing the bass end of the band, on Bb tuba, René Spoors. A warm welcome to you all!
