Regent Community Brass once again made the trip down to The Hawth theatre in Crawley on Sunday 29th September to perform at the SCABA Autumn Contest. At this competition, bands had to play an “Own-choice” test piece in their relevant section, for which the band chose to perform Simon Dobson’s atmospheric “Penlee”, written in memory of the 1981 Cornish lifeboat disaster.
Despite this being a really demanding piece, the band put on a good show and impressed many in the audience, including adjudicator Chris Davis who placed the band 3rd overall, above several more highly-ranked bands. In addition, principal cornet Gillian Park picked up the prize for “Best Instrumentalist” for her beautiful playing in the solo passages while the band’s percussionists also picked up the “Best Percussion Section” award.
This was the band’s best result to date and certainly provides a great boost of confidence for the players.
The band would like to thank the guest players who performed with us on the day.
